in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Eight (3 months, 2 weeks ago)
I
just uploaded a new set of photos, the second to last batch from our 2006 Spring Break driving bonanza.
It's a batch that covers our day driving across Nevada on Route 50, which many maps refer to as the
Loneliest Road in America.
The route apparently follows a path used by the Pony Express during its time. If that's the case, those guys had terrible cell reception. The place is beautiful in its bleakness, and I can't think of a better place to evoke the concept of desolation and abandonment. It's where I hide all the bodies.
During the drive we came across something particularly creepy, and the isolation of the location definitely heightened the oddity of the place. We found a
Shoe Tree. As I later learned, there are many shoe trees out there, but this was my first, and the overcast weather along with the absolute paucity of other vehicles or lifeforms in the area just made it incredibly weird. It deserved more than one photo, to be sure.
Nifty place to visit if you're looking for something spooky, or something in a size 8. Just bring a ladder.
