T
oday is an anniversary, kids. One week ago I signed 800 papers and Sally & I bought a house. With a bell tower. 6 Days ago we had our 4 month wedding anniversary. We got each other a church, with a bell tower.
Last night I took out my garbage at the new place for the first time. It was pouring down rain, halloween, and some heavy-breathing guy was lugging large garbage cans out the back door of a previously abandoned church. There were still some die-hard trick-or-treaters within viewing distance, so hopefully the rumor mill is churning out some good stories.
Sally and I are still here in the loft downtown, but hope to move by month's end. We're getting the place sprayed for bugs, and I've been over there tearing out some bad plaster and rotted lath. I need to have an expert tell me how much needs to be patched, replaced, or given up for dead. We also met the mayor of Towanda, who seems like a nice sort.
I need to mention that closing went relatively smoothly. We finally met the daughter of the owner, and she was really friendly and interested in what we had planned. I'm still a bit miffed that our realtor made no effort to get us in contact with her before closing (which I asked for repeatedly). We likely would have got the place for less, and she alluded to that fact when we talked. Mental note: listen to your gut, not your realtor.
I'm uploading the
New Orleans pics as we speak. There are a lousy bunch of them (150+) and I now remember I have no paging functions in my image sections, so all of you on dialup connections will have much justification in hating me.
As eagle-eyed reader Dave pointed out, Harriet Meirs took a hike (thankfully) and now we get a pretty unassailable nominee with this guy Alito. I'll be really surprised if Democrats do much more than make a lot of billowy hand gestures and then lay down for his confirmation. As it looks, the guy is as qualified as John Roberts. Anyhow, we get to jump between Scooter Libby and Alito's confirmations, so the Daily Show should have plenty to squeak about for a while, which gives me a happy wife.
